How to Remove a Lock Core
Lock cores can be removed in one of three ways, depending on the lock type. Identify the type below, then watch the matching how-to video. If you would rather replace the whole lock instead, that is often faster than extracting the core: email us with the number stamped on the front of the lock and we can match a replacement.
Type 1: cores that do not come out
The lock has to be taken apart to change the core. Most swing-cam locks, plunger locks, lock handles, and older locks are like this.

Type 2: released with the regular key plus a probe
Insert the regular key, turn the lock 90 degrees, then insert a probe to activate a retaining clip inside the lock. Pull out firmly with the regular key. This one can be tricky.

Type 3: uses a special core key
A dedicated core key pulls the core out of the lock body.
